WEDNESDAY 28thDECEMBER 2016

The Community Christmas Carol Concert  by the pupils of Nether Currie Primary School took place as scheduled on Wednesday 21st December. The event was very well attended by friends and family and we were treated to a fine selection of carols from pupils in each year in the school.

Unfortunately the weather was not kind to us and the rain started soon after the singing began but the children carried on undaunted.

Hot chocolate, mince pies and biscuits were available to all in the school hall and these were very welcome after the chilly, wet weather outside. Many thanks to all who provided this feast and served it up to everyone.

Thanks also go to the children, teachers and helpers who organised and took part in the carol singing.

CROCUS PLANTING FRIDAY 28th OCTOBER 2016

We had a lovely afternoon when we were planting our 1,500 crocus bulbs.

More than 25 children and adults turned up and the job was completed in 30 minutes - the holes having been prepared earlier in the week.

It was good to see such a large turnout and we can look forward to a fine display in the Spring.

Many thanks to all the helpers.

We will be planting 1500 crocus bulbs on Friday 28th October and welcome along anyone who would like to help.

Come for as long or as short a time as you can manage.

It would help if you could bring along hand trowels or forks .

Hope to see some of you there on Friday.

EASTER EGG HUNT FRIDAY 25th MARCH 2016

We were extremely fortunate to have a lovely, sunny day to hold our Easter Egg Hunt.

This was reflected in the number of adults/children attending. We had more than 140 children signing in to take part and we had to replenish the Cafe supplies and the number of eggs. It was really great to see such a large turn out.

We received many favourable comments and the children scoured the Park looking for the 100 chickens and rabbits that were hidden in the woods.

Unfortunately the SSPCA was unable to attend due to illness.

At the end of the Event we had  a litter pick and left the Park looking spick and span.

A selection of photographs is available on our Facebook page. ( see "Home " page)

Many thanks to all of the helpers who contributed to the success of the Event and to  all those who generously gave donations.

EASTER EGG HUNT ON SUNDAY 20th APRIL 2014

Our Egg Hunt took place on a glorious sunny day and was well attended by adults and children. Approximately 70 children attended and they were soon scouring the woods looking for the 100+ chickens and rabbits that were hidden there. Most of the rabbits and chickens were found and were soon exchanged for Easter eggs at the Egg gazebo. Four of the children were lucky enough to find the 4 specially marked  rabbits and were able to claim a large Easter egg in exchange for these.

We also had displays from the SSPCA and SUSTRANS (the cycling organisation).

We had the ever popular litter pick at the end and the park was looking as good as ever when we left.

Many thanks to all who attended and helped to make the afternoon a success.

Thanks also to all the helpers who manned the stalls, ran the cafe and hid the rabbits and chickens etc.
Your help is very much appreciated and the event could not take place without you.

Some photos of the event are shown below.

REPORT ON SUMMER EVENT ON FRIDAY 25thMAY 2012

Our Summer Event for 2012 was held on a gorgeous ,sunny and warm evening which was in complete contrast to the previous Friday when it was pouring with rain and only 5c.

The opening ceremony was preceded by the pipes of John Wilhelm and we offer our thanks to him on what we think was his first public appearance - well done John!         Alistair Paisley was due to open the event but he was suddenly struck down with a virus and confined to bed for five days. The Event organiser said a few words in his place and presented the prizes to the winners of the Children's Photographic competition. The winning entries were on display at the Membership tent and were of a high quality.

The warm, sunny evening brought out a large crowd and we were very satisfied with the way that all the stalls were patronised.

Cafe Gazebo sold out of all it's stock by the end and thanks to the Catering ladies who were kept very busy indeed.

The Bouncy Castle proved as popular as ever and the new addition "Greasy Pole" also proved to be very popular.

Face painting was also new and had a queue all evening. Our thanks to "Mags" who did wonderful work on all the faces.
Next time a system of Queue control will be introduced to minimise waiting times.

The hit of the evening was undoubtedly the Clyde Valley Birds of Prey where the children were able to hold and stroke owls of all sizes. Thanks to Gary for bringing the birds along.

Stevie, the Community Policeman, was not run of his feet doing the Bike Maintenance but was kept busy showing off his Police Car and letting the children wear his hat and sound his car horn! Next year we will advertise the Bike Maintenance a bit more.

Thanks to all the other stall holders - SSPCA, Neighbourhood Watch and the Girl Guides for their attendance.

Finally , a big thank you to all members of the "Friends Group" and their friends who were coaxed in to helping out in the many tasks that are required to hold an Event like this.

A special Thank You goes to all the children who willingly gave up their time and did a great job in making the Event a success.THANK YOU!

At the end of the day we had a few pounds over once all the expenses were paid so a good result all round.

REPORT AND PHOTOGRAPHS OF AUTUMN EVENT

SUNDAY 30th OCTOBER 2011

We had lovely fine weather for our Annual Bulb Planting Event and the children and adults  turned out in force - which was just as  well  because  we  had  5,000 crocus,  3,000 bluebells  and 2,000 daffodils  to plant. By  the  finishing  time  of  3 pm  the vast majority of these bulbs had been put in the ground and we look forward to a grand display next Spring.

The litter picking proved as popular as ever and the park was left in excellent condition.

At 1.45 pm we had an unveiling ceremony for the Green Flag that we were awarded earlier this year. The flag ceremony went off well with brief speeches from Park Ranger Matt Crehan, Friend's Chairman Alistair Sutherland and local Councillor Alastair Paisley.

Tea , coffee, juice and biscuits were ,as usual, provided free at Cafe Gazebo but we received donations totalling £36.00 and this will cover the cost. We also made £6.00 selling apples that had been kindly donated by some neighbours.

It was great to see the park filled with families helping to improve the park and enjoying the fine weather.

Here's to the next event.
